Several awards were recently announced showcasing leading practice in diversity. Diversity Council Australia congratulates the winning organisations and individuals, many of whom are DCA members.
PwC was named Australia's most gay-friendly employer for 2012 by Pride in Diversity, Australia's first and only employer support program for the inclusion of LGBT people in the workplace.
While the winners of the 2012 Australian Human Resources Institute Diversity Awards were also announced last week, and featured DCA members ANZ, Deloitte, Downer EDI, National Australia Bank and Telstra.
The Pride in Diversity Awards were determined using its Australian Workplace Equality Index, that evaluates and benchmarks LGBT inclusiveness in Australian workplaces.
Seven out of the ten Australian employers that were ranked the highest for LGBT inclusion in the Australian Workplace Equality Index were also DCA members:
- PwC
- KPMG
- IBM Australia
- Accenture Australia
- Goldman Sachs
- Lend Lease
- Australian Federal Police.
PwC’s Glee@PwC group was named LGBT Employee Network Group of the Year while Deutsche Bank received the Most Improved award.
Nareen Young, DCA’s CEO congratulated the winners:
“The Australian Workplace Equality Index is close to DCA’s heart, having partnered with ACON and Stonewall UK to establish Pride in Diversity in 2009. The index is now an important indicator of which organisations are strongly committed to embracing and nurturing inclusive workplace cultures. We congratulate the many DCA members who have been acknowledged in this way,” said Nareen.
Dawn Hough, Pride in Diversity’s Program Director said the awards provide a valuable platform for organisations to highlight the quality of their LGBT workplace diversity practices:
"Pride in Diversity's awards are an important opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the changes happening in our workplaces - and in our society - that make LGBT people feel like they belong," said Dawn.
The winners of the 2012 Australian Human Resources Institute Diversity Awards were also announced last week. DCA members who were award winners include:

- Diversity Champion, CEO Award - David Thodey, Telstra
- Inclusive Workplace of the Year Award - Deloitte
- Gender Equity in the Workplace Award - Telstra
- Indigenous Employment Award - ANZ and Downer EDI
- Disability Employment Award - ANZ
- Cross Cultural Management Award - National Australia Bank.
