Women's employment in 2010: productivity, the new regulatory framework and deep cultural changeAs the independent, not-for-profit peak body and diversity advisor to business in Australia, one of DCA's roles is to provide thought leadership on diversity. We do this by providing opportunity for discussion and debate to allow leading practitioners to formulate the latest trends in diversity.
In this regard, DCA is holding its first Diversity Leadership Briefing for 2010 on the subject of women's employment, hosted by ANZ in Melbourne on 17 March.
This year looks like being a year of discussion, debate and change around women's contribution to employment and business in the Australian economy. We think the time is right to bring together, for the first time in Australia, five crucial, concurrent and linked factors that impact women's employment and discuss them at one time. Traditionally, these streams have been dealt with in isolation: 'eeo' legal frameworks in one place, societal and cultural change in another, women's economic development and the productivity agenda in another and workplace relations frameworks in another. However, DCA believes it's important to consider these issues together to work towards change that is achievable on the ground in the workplace.
At the event, the following leaders from business, community and government will explore, debate and link together these issues:
- Alison Watkins, Non-executive Director of ANZ on leading Australian business diversity practice: what the bank is doing to promote women in leadership
- Cate Tinney, Director, Discrimination, Fair Work Ombudsman on fundamental changes to Australian workplace relations culture: anti-discrimination provisions in the Fair Work Act
- Anne Summers, writer, journalist, author on the overarching legislative environment for women in Australian workplaces: where we've come from and where we are at now
- Robyn Worthington, Group Head - Human Capital Management for Goldman Sachs JBWere on the economic case for increasing female participation
- Nareen Young, CEO DCA on how it's now possible to achieve deep cultural change.
