KPMG
KPMG launched its new Employee Network in Sydney in 2009. Called KGEN (KPMG's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Employee network), the network is designed to raise awareness of the challenges and barriers LGBT employees can face, provide an informal forum to network and share ideas and experiences to shape the organisation's diversity agenda.
Liz Forsyth, KPMG Partner and Diversity Advisory Board member said KGEN helps the organisation support its LGBT employees as well as understand the competitive advantages:
"KPMG is committed to building an inclusive workplace. A key part of that challenge is ensuring that all employees can be comfortable in the workplace and feel included. KGEN is an important and significant step taking KPMG closer to that goal," said Liz.
DCA's CEO Nareen Young helped launch the network along with Mark Latchford, Vice President, Systems & Technology Group, IBM Australia and New Zealand. Nareen said DCA's leading partner IBM has one of the longest established corporate LGBT networks in Australia and other leading employers like KPMG are following their lead:
"Progressive organisations like KPMG and IBM recognise they need to draw on talent from all sections of the population and create a workforce culture that embraces diversity. By establishing LGBT networks, these employers not only show support for their LGBT employees but they also gain business benefits in terms of corporate reputation, recruitment and retention, productivity and market share.
"KPMG have also made a formal commitment to be a founding partner in DCA's Australian Corporate Equality Index, Pride in Diversity, in partnership with the National LGBT Health Alliance. This is designed to promote employers who show leadership and a demonstrated commitment to workplace diversity," said Nareen.
