WordsAtWork: Building inclusion through the power of language

Hosted by Deloitte Australia
01 Jun 2016

Language is a powerful tool for building inclusion or exclusion at work. It can be used to create a sense of being valued, respected and one of the team or of being under-valued, disrespected, and an ‘outsider’.

Join us at a special DCA event that will investigate DCA’s latest research on the power of inclusive language in building workplace culture.

DCA’s Research Director Dr Jane O’Leary will outline what inclusive language is, why it matters and debunk commonly held myths (e.g. ‘People are oversensitive’, ‘It’s so PC!’). She will also showcase new resources DCA members can use to build inclusive language.

DCA’s CEO Lisa Annese will then lead a thought provoking discussion on the challenges and opportunities for achieving more inclusive language. Our guest panel will include:

  • Lieutenant General (retired) David Morrison AO, DCA Chair and Australian of the Year 2016
  • Scott Powell, Unit Manager - Environment and Advisory, Aurecon
  • Dr Jane O’Leary, Research Director, Diversity Council Australia

The venue for the event is wheelchair accessible. If you have any accessibility or other requirements that would assist your participation at the event, please contact us.

Building Inclusion: #Words at Work: A campaign for more inclusive workplaces is a partnership initiative between DCA and Aurecon and we sincerely thank Aurecon for their leadership and vision in supporting this project.
