Diversity Leadership Program - Who’s afraid of the big black dog? The role of employers in depression & mental health

Hosted by Gilbert + Tobin
30 Jul 2013

With almost half of Australians likely to experience a mental illness in their lifetime, it is highly likely that we all know someone affected by mental illness or will ourselves experience it. At DCA’s next Diversity Leadership Program event, we will take a critical look at managing mental health in the workplace and supporting mental health and wellbeing.

Research by the national mental health charity, SANE Australia, found that a staggering 95% of respondents said employers and managers needed education on mental illness, and training on how to manage its effects in the workplace.

Our Keynote Speaker will be Naomi Lehrer from SANE Australia who will discuss SANE's Mindful Employer Program. SANE's work focuses on mental illness awareness training and developing workplace capacity to better support employees with a mental health difficulty.

This presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on mental health in the workplace with leading practitioners. DCA’s CEO, Nareen Young, will lead the discussion and will invite the audience members to contribute to the conversation to share experiences and gain insights into working with mental health issues. Our panellists will include:

  • Sam Mostyn, Mental Health Commissioner and DCA Vice-Chair;
  • Geraldine King, Health and Safety Advisor for Citi Australia;
  • Jennifer Bowers, CEO at Centre for Rural & Remote Mental Health; and
  • Naomi Lehrer, Mindful Employer Client Relationship Manager, SANE Australia.

The rest of this content is restricted to DCA members.
