Building Workplace Capability for Indigenous Australia

The next meeting of our Building Capability for Indigenous Australia network sponsored by Lendlease will explore engaging and empowering Indigenous women leaders and will feature The Hon Linda Burney MP who was the first Aboriginal person elected to the NSW Parliament and also the first Indigenous woman elected to the House of Representatives in the Federal Parliament as member for Barton.

Indigenous women leaders

Indigenous women are under-represented in positions of leadership in Australian organisations. Following International Women’s Day, DCA’s Building Workplace Capability for Indigenous Australia network, exclusively for DCA members, will explore engaging and empowering Indigenous women leaders.

Linda Burney will give the keynote presentation, speaking about her experience as a long-time politician and will share her personal stories of overcoming adversity and finding success and her perspectives on challenges and opportunities facing Indigenous women leaders and how corporate Australia can harness this talent.

Chris Lamb, Global Head of Talent/Organisational Development at Lendlease and DCA Board member will lead a discussion with a guest panel around engaging and empowering Indigenous women leaders at work. Panel speakers will include:

  • The Hon Linda Burney MP
  • Nareen Young, Director PwC Indigenous Consulting and former CEO of DCA
  • Sharon Gray, National Aboriginal Engagement Advisor at John Holland Group
  • Cath Brokenborough, Executive Lead Indigenous Engagement and RAP at Lendlease

Building Workplace Capability for Indigenous Australia network

This network is sponsored by Lendlease and run exclusively for DCA members.  It is designed to: 

  • Profile leading practice in attraction, retention and promotion of Indigenous talent
  • Improve understanding of Indigenous cultures and issues
  • Build organisational capability in this area
  • Involve both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to share information and build relationships. 

DCA encourages attendance by all member oganisations, their staff and senior management.  DCA’s charter is to enhance your organisations diversity capability and external profile.  We do this by providing members with a range of free events featuring expert thought leaders in the field of D&I.  We encourage senior management and line managers to attend these free DCA events to further support the work diversity and HR practitioners are doing at the coal face.
