Exploring Indigenous Cultural Competence (Preliminary Notice)

At this event we will explore how to improve knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture in your workplace, as a foundation for effective RAPs. DCA will also launch its very own Reflect RAP.

On the eve of NAIDOC week, we invite you to join us to explore how to improve knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture in your workplace, as a foundation for effective Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs). DCA will also launch its very own Reflect RAP.

The event will be hosted by National Australia Bank, our partner and sponsor of DCA’s Building Workplace Capability for Indigenous Australia Network.

David Morrison AO, Chair of the DCA Board, will moderate the event and our speakers will include:

  1. DCA, CEO Lisa Annese who will officially launch DCA’s Reflect RAP and provide an overview of its key points and intended actions.
  1. Shelley Reys, CEO of Indigenous business Arrilla who will share the benefits of developing Indigenous cultural competence in the workplace. Her vision is to create a “culturally competent Australia, one organisation at a time.”
  1. Peter Morris, General Manager, RAP Program, Reconciliation Australia will provide guidance on the foundations of a successful RAP and what it takes to embed greater understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture within an organisation.
  1. Elizabeth Campbell, Indigenous Finance Manager at NAB, leads NAB’s RAP program and will share her thoughts on what it takes to implement an effective RAP with a focus on outcomes

Building Workplace Capability for Indigenous Australia

DCA’s Building Workplace Capability for Indigenous Australia network is sponsored by National Australia Bank and is run exclusively for DCA members. It is designed to profile leading practice in attraction, retention and promotion of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander talent; improve understanding of Indigenous cultures and issues; build organisational capability in this area; and involve both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to share information and build relationships.

Date, time and other details are subject to change and will be confirmed closer to the event.  
Invitations with final details will be forwarded to all DCA email subscribers (Click here to sign up for emails)  Bookings generally open 4 weeks prior to the event.

Who should attend

All DCA members. As a part of our commitment to gender balance at DCA events, we particularly encourage male representatives to attend this event alongside their female and gender diverse colleagues. We also recommend encouraging those in senior leadership roles to attend this particular event. Attendance at DCA events is free for all member employees and a significant benefit of membership that we urge you to maximise.
