This Diversity Leadership Program event explores the future of accessibility at work.

DCA research has found that inclusion at work continues to matter to the majority of Australian workers, benefits everyone, and boosts employee performance and wellbeing. Despite this, workers with disability experience notably lower levels of inclusion and higher levels of exclusion than their colleagues.

At this event, founding CEO of the Australian Network on Disability (AND), Suzanne Colbert AM will discuss how organisations can create more accessible and inclusive workplaces and what the future of accessibility looks like.

AND is a national, membership based, for-purpose organisation. Suzanne’s goal in starting AND was to work with organisations to advance the inclusion of people with disability in all aspects of business by collaborating with Australia's leading private and public sector organisations.

From small beginnings AND has grown to a team of 23 specialist staff who partner with members to build their understanding, capability and confidence to welcome people with disability as employees, customers and stakeholders.

We will also hear from two organisations recognised in AND’s 2018-2019 Access and Inclusion Index as Australia's most accessible and inclusive organisations - Medibank Private and National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA)

Speakers include:

  • Katrina Jackson, Senior Executive for Care Complete and Accessibility Work Group Co-chair at Medibank Private, and
  • Torbjorn Servin, Branch Manager, the National Disability Insurance Agency’s People and Culture Division. 

Our speakers will outline what it takes to create a disability confident workplace including:

  • What their approach to access and inclusion is
  • What’s been a success and what the challenges have been
  • What they will focus on in the future.

Our event will be hosted by Gilbert + Tobin, who have long championed accessibility at work and are a major event partner of DCA.

Who should attend
Attendance at DCA events is free for all member employees and is a significant benefit of your membership that we urge you to maximise. Attending in person allows you to meet and network with speakers and DCA staff or you can attend online and contribute to the conversation in real time from anywhere in Australia.  As a part of our commitment to gender balance at DCA events, we strongly encourage male representatives to attend this event alongside their female and gender diverse colleagues. We also recommend senior leaders attend this event.

Accessibility
The venue is wheelchair accessible and live-captioning can be accessed via your smartphone or tablet. Auslan interpreters will also be present and a recording and transcript will be made available via the DCA website after the event.
