Following on from the 2016 release of DCA’s Future-Flex for the retail sector, we are delighted to launch Phase 2, providing new guidance on how to redesign a team’s work to enable flexibility – now applicable to all sectors.

For most organisations, the biggest challenge for implementing flexibility involves the team. So it follows that the best opportunities for change rest at this level. In fact, work design at the team level is critical to enable flexibility in individual jobs to be sustained. This needs to involve:

  • Reviewing the components of all team members’ jobs (e.g. tasks, duties, responsibilities, location, timing), rather than just one individual employee’s.
  • Having employees and managers work together to come up with team-based flexibility solutions, rather than managers doing this in isolation or with just one employee.

At this event, Dr Graeme Russell, report co-author and internationally renowned researcher and consultant on flexibility and Dr Jane O’Leary, DCA Research Director will jointly take the audience through the rationale behind the new guidelines and what it takes to embed flexibility in teams.

Kate Dee, General Manager Talent Management, National Australia Bank will outline how NAB is taking a Future-Flex approach to flexibility.

The session will include opportunities for audience members to discuss in small groups how they could introduce a Future-Flex approach to flexibility in their own workplace.

Challenge: Bring your team along to this event or tune in to livestreaming as a group. This will ensure you get the maximum opportunity from your participation in this interactive event focused on Team Design.

This project is a partnership initiative between DCA, the Retail Council, National Australia Bank, Allens, IBM, BAE Systems Australia and IAG, which aimed to generate practical guidance for managers, teams, and individuals on how to implement and mainstream workplace flexibility through work design.
