Diversity Council Australia congratulated Kate Jenkins for being appointed the new federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner.

Kate, who has been the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner since 2013, has two decades of legal experience, including lead partner of Herbert Smith Freehills Australia.

DCA’s CEO, Lisa Annese, said the appointment is an outstanding choice.

“On behalf of the DCA Board and its members, I congratulate Kate on her appointment. Her work as the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner, coupled with her strong background in employment law, make her a great choice for the role.

“Given that women only represent 15.4% of CEOs or Heads of Business in Australia, earn 17.9% less than men, retire with average superannuation balances that are half of those of men, suffer high rates of domestic violence, and experience discrimination in the workplace during pregnancy, parental leave or on return to work, there is still much to do.

“I’m very much looking forward to working alongside Kate to improve gender equality in Australia,” said Lisa.
