To understand Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander worker’s experiences, it is important to recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are not a homogenous group.

It also essential to understand the ongoing impact of colonialism. The removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from their families, associated violence, loss of Country and deliberate practices by the Government to stop Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from practicing their culture have a continuing impact today.
