Getting started on D&I

Your step-by-step guide to diversity and inclusion at work

We’ve developed this guide for people who lead, implement, or are involved in supporting D&I work in their organisation. This guide will:

  • help you get the basics right
  • identify priority areas and design and implement initiatives that address these
  • direct you to DCA resources that can support you and help you make the most of your membership.

Not everything in this guide will be relevant for your organisation. It is up to you and your team to decide what will work for you.

The ‘Getting started on D&I’ guide outlines the ‘5 Ps of D&I’, 5 key areas for D&I action.

The 5 Ps of D&I

  • Preparation
  • People
  • Policy
  • Priorities
  • Practice
The 5 Ps of diversity and inclusion are preparation, people, policy, priorities, practice

On our D&I Planning platform, you will find a number of tools and resources for each of the 5 Ps of the guide. Download Getting started on D&I below and use it to navigate these resources and guide your D&I work.

DCA’s ‘Getting started on D&I’ guide was first released in September 2024. As we continue to release new resources in line with D&I leading practice, this guide may be updated and new editions released.
