Leading Practice

The Victorian Government has  a Mentally Healthy Workplaces Framework that characterises a mentally healthy workplace as “promoting wellbeing and positive aspects of work, identifying and managing risks to create fair and safe workplaces, and responding early to warning signs, with effective tools, skills, and commitment”.

Creating mentally healthy workplaces requires support and commitment from all levels in an organisation – from individual employees, managers/supervisors, HR and D&I practitioners, senior leaders, and the organisation as a whole. This section explores some leading practices in mentally healthy workplaces, including:

  • Building mentally safe workplaces
  • Leadership and management support
  • Policy considerations
  • Return to work considerations
