Reframing approaches to gender equality using the evidence

At this Gender Equality Insights, we discussed why organisations need to rethink their approach to gender equality and leadership—based on evidence, not assumptions.

The keynote was presented by world-renowned gender equality expert Professor Michelle Ryan. Her work centres on understanding the psychological processes underlying workplace gender inequality, and designing and implementing innovative and evidence-based interventions to increase gender equality.

Her presentation unpacked what works and what to avoid, including:

  • Representation ≠ equity – it’s more than numbers.
  • Stop “fixing women” – fix systems instead.
  • Be realistic – don’t overestimate progress.

DCA Board Director, Ian Goshko (he/him), then facilitated a fantastic panel discussion with:

  • Professor Michelle Ryan (she/her), Professor of Social and Organisational Psychology, and the inaugural Director of the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership.
  • Micaela Drieberg (she/her), CEO, Gender Equity Victoria
  • Dr Janin Bredehoeft (she/her), CEO, Science in Australia Gender Equity
  • Divya Pasupuleti (she/her), Director, Australian Gender Equality Council
