Pregnancy loss can be an isolating experience, made more so because pregnancy loss is not widely discussed.
In 2021, the Respect at Work Amendment Act enabled employees to access compassionate leave entitlements if the employee or their partner has a miscarriage. Some employers also offer additional bereavement leave in the event that an employee or their partner suffer the loss of a child through miscarriage.
But there is much more workplaces can be doing to support employees who have experienced a pregnancy loss.
At DCA’s recent Gender Equality Network event, we heard about how workplaces can be inclusive of women, and people of all genders, who have experienced pregnancy loss. And how we can support our colleagues and friends.
