Gari Yala 2.0 and Trends in First Nations Employment

Flourishing employment and career paths for First Nations people is an important and growing area of focus within the diversity, inclusion and human resources landscapes. Since the 2020 release of the joint report ‘Gari Yala – Speak the Truth’, created by UTS’ Jumbunna Institute of Indigenous Education and Research in partnership with DCA, we have gained invaluable firsthand insights into the diverse experiences of First Nations employees in the workplace.
Join us for this online webinar as Nareen Young, Associate Dean (Indigenous Leadership & Engagement) at UTS Business School, outlines plans for the next iteration of this landmark project – Gari Yala 2.0.
Following the presentation, Josh Gilbert (he/him), Researcher (Indigenous Policy) at Jumbunna Institute will speak with leading industry practitioners to explore the project’s intention to:
- explore the lived experience of First Nations Australians at work
- investigate trends in employment of First Nations people
- track the psychosocial impact of the incidence of racism at work (which was high in the first survey)
- examine cultural/colonial load and its impacts more carefully
- track the impact of intersectional considerations
- collect data so that we can begin to understand the First Nations wage gap.
