Allyship – an international perspective

At this DCA webinar, we delved into what allyship looks like in different parts of the world.

Our Global Inclusion Diversity Alliance (GIDA) partner countries have all contributed to this event to enhance our understanding of allyship and how it works best in a range of workplace settings in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Asia.

GIDA is a global alliance of peak bodies focusing on diversity and inclusion in the workplace. GIDA partners act together to make workplaces more equitable, and they provide a community of practice for peak D&I organisations from around the world.

DCA’s CEO Lisa Annese (she/her) shared a special video presentation featuring the perspectives of the four different communities that make up our GIDA partnership: Diversity Council Australia, Diversity Works NZ, Community Business (Asia) and the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion. The video presentation was facilitated by Janet Ledger, CEO Community Business (Asia) and features Jeiz Robles, Director of DE&I Community Business (Asia) and Marni Parnas, Chair of the Board, Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion as well as Maretha Smit and Lisa Annese.

Following this presentation, Lisa led a discussion with our guest panellists who shared their thoughts from the perspective of Australian and New Zealand workplaces.

Our panel included:

  • Maretha Smit (she/her), Chief Executive, Diversity Works New Zealand
  • Sheetal Deo (she/her), Senior Manager RISE Project, DCA
  • Christina Ryan (she/her), CEO, Disability Leadership Institute and member of DCA’s Disability and Accessibility External Advisory Panel
  • Professor Peter Anderson (he/him), Director Indigenous Research Unit, Griffith University and member of DCA’s Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander External Advisory Panel.
