First and foremost, DCA advocates that any organisation seeking to attract and retain Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people should acknowledge country and culture in policy and practice. This involves:
- Paying respect to First Nations People as the ongoing custodians of this land,
- Acknowledging and ensuring that Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people need to be at the forefront of, and leading, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues,
- Recognising and respecting the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait cultures, identity, heritage, languages, lores, and social and spiritual systems practiced by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, and
- Committing to working in partnership with and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations to create a collective voice.
