Job Design for Greater Inclusion

This final DCA event for the year was in-person at Gilbert + Tobin at their Barangaroo offices in Sydney, and delighted to have three very special guest speakers joining DCA CEO Lisa Annese to talk about job design for greater inclusion, including:

  1. Nas Campanella, National Disability Affairs Reporter at the ABC,
  2. Jo Bassett, Occupational Therapist and Leadership Coach, and
  3. Tim Gordon, Partner in Gilbert + Tobin’s Corporate Advisory Group.

Jo Bassett, Occupational Therapist and Leadership Coach covered:

  • Why it’s important to create places where people work together with an understanding of skills, strengths and workplace enablers
  • What occupational therapy is and how it can contribute to creating inclusive places of work
  • How to conduct a Functional Workplace Assessment
  • How to encourage an ‘enablement’ mindset
  • The role of lived experience in inclusive job design.

Jo Bassett is a mental health focused Occupational Therapist and works in a practical and collaborative partnership with clients to support them to live a satisfying life achieving in areas they identify as important and meaningful. She provides inclusion coaching to senior leaders and team leaders supporting organisations to provide a workplace where everyone has a sense of belonging and connection so all people ‘individually and collectively’ can do their best work.

Following Jo’s presentation, Nas and Tim joined her in conversation with Lisa Annese to unpack and bring to life examples of how organisations can create more inclusive workplaces by considered and purposeful job design.

Nas Campanella is the ABCs National Disability Affairs Reporter. She is totally blind and has a neurological condition called Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) which means she can’t read Braille. After completing a Communications degree at the University of Technology Sydney majoring in journalism, she started with the ABC as a cadet. She has volunteered abroad creating disability awareness training programs for the United Nations and has held several board positions in the disability sector.

Tim Gordon advises listed companies and Australian and offshore private equity fund managers in relation to mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings, joint ventures, corporate restructurings and regulatory investigations. He is a partner in Gilbert + Tobin’s Corporate Advisory group and a member of the firms Board of partners.  Tim is also a member of G+T’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee.
