In Australia, people with disability are less likely to be employed and more likely to work part-time than people without disability. Just over half (53%) of people aged 15–64 with disability are in the labour force, compared with 84% without disability.

Regrettably, people with disability can often find it difficult to secure meaningful work, especially in non-segregated work settings.

At this case study conversation, DCA’s CEO Lisa Annese (she/her), was joined by Hotel Etico Australia’s General Manager, Saraya O’Connell (she/her) and Hotel Etico graduate, Apprentice Chef, Quinn Jones (he/him) to discuss how Hotel Etico has facilitated a world-class training and live-in program for people with disability while providing successful holiday experiences to all hotel guests.

This case study covered coversations on how Hotel Etico Australia is achieving real results through:

  • creating a work setting where people with disability thrive
  • personalising the program to accommodate the individual
  • nurturing people in the transition to open employment and increased independence
  • changing perceptions about disability and employment
  • partnering with like-minded businesses and providers.
