DCA Research Launch: Disability Data at Work

Manisha Amin, Jane O'Leary, Emma Henningsen, Kenny Singh and Courtney Pond

Disability status data is a powerful tool for organisations to understand the mix of people in their workplace and importantly, the inclusion and exclusion experiences of employees with disability. This helps organisations make informed decisions about their Access and Inclusion Plan, monitor progress and drive positive change.

But many organisations struggle when it comes to capturing data relating to people with disability, and people with disability often feel unsafe sharing their disability status at work. As a result, organisations often lack the information they need to effectively unlock employment-related opportunities for people with disability.

DCA has launched a joint report with the Australian Disability Network which explores:

  • what is creating environments where people with disability feel unsafe sharing their disability status at work?
  • what can organisations do to create environments where people with disability feel safe to share their disability status without repercussion, and everyone’s accessibility needs are considered?

Dr Jane O’Leary (she/her), DCA’s Research Director presented the report findings and Manisha Amin (she/her), DCA Board Member, led a discussion with our guest panel including:

  1.  Emma Henningsen (she/her), Head of Consultancy and Acting Head of Member Services, Australian Disability Network
  2.  Kenny Singh (he/him), Director, Modern Work & Cyber Security Patner go-to-market, Microsoft Asia
  3.  Courtney Pond (she/her), Group Inclusion & Diversity Manager at NRMA.
