Presenting an Australian approach to Anti-Racism Workplace Action
The heightened global conversation about race and racism and the resultant calls for Australian organisations to do better when it comes to confronting and addressing racism has led to DCA’s latest research report, ‘Racism at Work’, conducted in partnership with sponsors, ARUP, Diageo, IKEA Australia, QBE, and Relationships Australia NSW.
On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we invited DCA Chair Ming Long AM and report co-author and DCA Member Education Director, Dr Virginia Mapedzahama for a presentation on the Racism at Work report findings. We considered:
- What racism and anti-racism are (and are not)
- The case for organisations to address racism
- First Principles for any anti-racism organisational action
- Six Organisational Keys that can help eradicate racism in Australian workplaces.
Our guest facilitator, report co-author, Professor Peter Anderson, then unpacked the complexities of how to combat racism in the workplace with our panel:
- Darcel Russell, Federal Officer Indigenous for the Australian Education Union,
- Juliana Nkrumah AM, the President of African Women Australia,
- Mohammad Al-Khafaji, Chief Executive Officer, Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA), and
