Families and Work

28 Apr 2022

There are over seven million families in Australia, and they come in all shapes and sizes such as couples with and without children, including same-sex couples, couples with dependants, single mothers or fathers with children, divorced/blended families, relatives who take on caring duties such as aunts, uncles, grandparents and siblings living together.

In the lead up to the International Family Equality Day (IFED), our Diversity Leadership Program event will investigate how to make workplaces more inclusive of different types of families.

Cathy Brown, DCA’s Communications & Advocacy Director and rainbow parent, will discuss the importance of celebrating IFED and what workplaces can do to be more inclusive of LGBTQ+ families.

We will also hear from other organisations who are at the coal face of helping workplaces to better support all types of families.

Stephen Barrow-Yu, DCA Board member and Assistant Secretary, People, Performance and Culture at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will moderate the event and the guest panel will include:

  • Emma Walsh, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Parents at Work,
  • Ashley Scott, Executive Officer, Rainbow Families,
  • Jenny Davidson, CEO of the Council of Single Mothers and their Children and
  • Danielle Moussa, Head of Specialised Distribution at HSBC Bank Australia.
