Target setting for gender equality
July 29 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm AEST
Free
Amendments to the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 (the Act), passed in March 2025, now require Australian employers with 500 or more employees to select and set gender equality targets — and demonstrate either achievement or measurable progress against them.
At this Gender Equality Network, we will investigate the benefits of target setting as an effective lever to improve workplace gender equality.
We will hear from Dr Leonora Risse (she/her), Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Canberra, Research Fellow with the Women’s Leadership Institute Australia. She will take us through her research on the effective use of targets, why targets matter, how to choose which targets to set, and processes for ongoing embedding, reporting and monitoring.
We will also hear from Mary Wooldridge (she/her), CEO of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), who will discuss the new requirements on targets, and what resources and tools are available to assist employers in implementing change.
Following the presentation, DCA CEO Catherine Hunter (she/her) will lead a panel conversation with leading employers to explore how gender equality targets are being applied in real-world settings.
Live captions will be available via your smart device during the event.
Zoom also allows you to activate closed captions live in real time on the screen.
If you need an Auslan interpreter, please let us know 10 working days before the event.
